Plagiarism Policy

Plagiarism and Academic Integrity Policy

The Gateway Journal for Modern Studies and Research (GJMSR) adheres to the highest international standards of academic integrity, ethical publishing, and research transparency, in full compliance with the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and Elsevier’s Ethical Guidelines for Journal Publication.
Plagiarism in any form — full, partial, or self-plagiarism — is strictly prohibited. All manuscripts must represent the author’s original scholarly contribution with proper acknowledgment and citation of all sources used. Any verified case of plagiarism will result in rejection, retraction, or disciplinary action.

Plagiarism Detection and Threshold

Every manuscript submitted to GJMSR is checked using Turnitin plagiarism detection software prior to peer review.

  • A similarity index higher than 20% is grounds for rejection.

  • The reference list similarity should not exceed 5%.

  • Authors may be allowed one revision opportunity if minor overlap is detected.

  • Recurrent or intentional plagiarism will result in blacklisting and notification to the author’s affiliated organization or funding body.

Types of Plagiarism

  • Full Plagiarism: Copying previously published text, tables, or figures verbatim without citation.

  • Partial Plagiarism: Integrating or paraphrasing content from multiple sources without proper acknowledgment.

  • Self-Plagiarism: Republishing one’s own previously published research or sections thereof without citation or editor disclosure.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) Policy

GJMSR prohibits manuscripts entirely generated by AI tools.
If AI tools are employed for language polishing, data analysis, or limited content assistance, authors must:

  • Disclose AI use transparently in the Acknowledgments section.

  • Assume full responsibility for the accuracy and originality of the content.

Failure to declare AI involvement may lead to manuscript rejection or retraction after publication.

Editorial Screening and Corrective Actions

  1. Initial Review:
All manuscripts undergo originality and citation screening prior to external review.

  2. Author Notification:
If plagiarism is detected, the author(s) are notified and given two weeks to respond with a written explanation.

  3. Formal Investigation:
A review committee may be convened to assess the case and determine corrective measures.

  4. Confirmed Violations:

    • Immediate removal of the article from the GJMSR archives and databases.

    • Official retraction notice published with a DOI link.

    • Institutional notification to the author’s university or funding agency.

    • Suspension or permanent exclusion from future submissions.

Commitment to Research Ethics

GJMSR promotes integrity, originality, and academic transparency in all published works.
All cases of academic misconduct are handled in accordance with COPE guidelines, ensuring fairness, accountability, and adherence to global ethical publishing standards.
